Karl Silveira
Applied Trombone
Karl Silveira is a Juno Nominated (Lemon Bucket Orkestra 2013) Trombonist from Toronto. He completed a Master of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto in 2019. Karl is an in-demand freelance trombonist and jazz musician in Toronto. He is a regular member of the Sam Kirmayer Sextet, The Alex Dean Quintet, The Harley Card Sunset Ensemble, The Noam Lemish Tentet and has performed with the David Braid Sextet, The Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra and the Hilario Duran Jazz Orchestra.
Aside from his work as a freelance trombonist, Karl is a composer, educator and bandleader as well. He recently released his Debut album “A Porta Aperta” in April 2022. The album features all of Karl’s compositions and has garnered lots of praise from reviewers and lots of radio play. Karl is a devout educator and is an applied teacher in the Jazz Program at The University of Toronto where he has been teaching since 2019.
Karl works as a freelance trombonist in Toronto. Lately, he has been active in the music theatre community where he played Chicago (2018), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2018-2019) at The Mirvish Theatre and The King and I (2018) at The Princess of Wales Theatre. He has also performed with a wide range of artists outside the Jazz community including Steven Page, DVBBS, The Lemon Bucket Orkestra, and The Boxcar Boys (Canadian Folk Music Award Nominee 2013). Karl composes for and leads The Karl Silveira Quintet featuring Allison Au, Matt Newton, Dan Fortin and Nico Dann. In March 2022, Karl released his debut album with the quintet “A Porta Aperta” and received many positive reviews and was #2 on the Earshot radio listings for the month of April.
